One of the top guards in the class of 2018 Javonte Smart had some of the best college programs tracking him last weekend. The Houston Hoops prospect had two good performances against Nike Phamily and and RM5 Elite where he finished with 22 points in both games. Smart spoke on his experience at session two of the Nike EYBL.
“It’s a great experience here, I played in the Nike EYBL when I was a freshman,” said Smart. “I love playing against the tough competition here and getting better.”
He listed some of the schools that have been recruiting him hard.
“Oklahoma State, Kansas, Kentucky, LSU and a couple of other schools are recruiting me hard,” he said.
Smart had an in home visit with Kentucky Head Coach John Calipari two weeks ago. They spoke on how he would fit in with the Wildcats.
“It went great, he came to my high school and talked to my mom and coach,” he said. “We had a great time and spoke on myself and Kentucky. He wants be to play competitively on both sides of the ball. He said he likes how I can score and that I have good size.”
He also had an in-home visit with new LSU Head Coach Will Wade. Smart was happy to talk to Wade for the first time.
“It was his first time at my high school since he got hired at LSU,” Smart said. “He’s young, he likes to win and I’m looking forward to staying in touch with LSU.”
Smart sees the Kansas Jayhawks as another appealing option.
“They play fast and they let their guards go,” said Smart. “I think what they do with guys at my position suits me well.”
He will be watching Mike Boynton and Oklahoma State closely next college basketball season.
“I’m looking forward to watching them a lot more this season,” Smart said. “I want to see how I would fit in there.”
