The first weekend of August, 300+ teams invaded Spooky Nook Sports Facility in hopes of ending their summer crowned as MADE Hoops National champions. Between both days, here’s some of the best storylines from the 16U and 17U divisions.
Team OBG Wins Big
Team OBG 16U capped off a great weekend with a MADE National championship after defeating DMV Impact with a final score of 60-48. This athletic, well-coached team went undefeated throughout bracket play and won most of their games by double-digits. The unselfishness of this team shined as three players finished in double-figures points.
2027 big Rico Harris was fantastic for DMV Impact, finishing with 27 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.
Team Thrill Stuns Jet Academy MHC in The Final Round
Team Thrill Black ended the weekend crowned victorious in an overtime win against Jet Academy with a 62-59 final score. The depth at the guard position is what carried Thrill over the top against most of their opponents. 2028 guard Aaron Early Jr. stood out the entire weekend with his shot making prowess and aggression at the point of attack. Chase Huber also played an integral role in Thrill’s success. His ability to guard multiple positions, and make plays as a creator off the bounce paid dividends for a team that lacked size this weekend.
Jet Academy MHC Has A Positive Showing
Jet Academy was easily one of the most exciting teams to watch in the 17U division during MADE Nationals. This group went undefeated the entire weekend up until the championship game where they’d lose to Team Thrill Black. Players like Yale Davis, and Messiah Springer helped carry the load, while also leaving a positive impression with their gameplay. Davis seemingly obtained paint touches whenever he pleased, and the versatility of Springer presented matchup problems all over the floor for opposing teams.
Post player Favour Egbuna also made his presence felt with his agility, physicality and verticality as an inside threat.
