2024 East High School Academy Day Two Takeaways
October 7, 2024 by Brian Flinn
The 2024 edition of East High School Academy continued on Sunday. With a number of future scholarship prospects for all different levels of the college ranks, there was plenty of talent on display at the 6th Man Center. After Day two, the MADE Scouting staff touch on some of their takeaways from the action at camp:
Malvern Prep Duo Looking to Make Noise in the Inter-AC
Both Marvin Reed and Logan Chwastyk made all-star games at camp over the weekend. Reed, a 2027 guard with a lightning quick first step, made an impact with his ability to put pressure on defenses, got into the lane and showcased good playmaking ability as well. A freshman forward, Chwasyck did a bit of everything from rebounding to defending and setting hard screens. Normally camps aren’t a great setting for big men, but Chwasyck’s impact on games in different aspects was too much to overlook. With the high school season just a few short weeks away, Malvern Prep looks like they’ll be powered by two of the top players in their league this season and should contend for the title this year because of it.
Don’t Sleep On Dylan Perry
A bouncy 6-foot-7 combo forward, Dylan Perry is one of several division one prospects at Archbishop Stepinac this season. The New York native was one of the standouts over the weekend at East HSA. His energy and rebounding led him to easy put back baskets and he out-competed his opposition in a variety of ways. He’ll bring a ton of energy and intensity to a team with high aspirations and the ability to run out several different looking lineups. Part of that versatility comes from Perry’s buy-in as a multi-positional defender. With a number of scholarship offers already in hand, it will be interesting to see how the next few months play out for the talented forward.
Camden Catholic’s 2027s Are On the Rise
Sophomores Azyris Richmond and Bryce Clark both had strong showings at camp over the weekend. Richmond was effective around the rim on day one before finding the range from outside on day two of camp, ultimately landing in the top-20 all-star game. His running mate was impressive as well. Clark, a two-sport star in his own right, was highly effective getting into the lane and finishing around the rim, and showcased an improving jumper from three as well. The two should continue to help power an ascending Camden Catholic program that is still fairly young as a whole. It might not happen right at the start of the season, but there’s little doubt that Clark and Richmond will cement themselves as one of the best 2027 duos in the state of New Jersey moving forward before the year is over.
South Kent’s Backcourt Duo is Ready For All Comers
Jackson Southerland and Tim Walker put together All-Star worthy performances this weekend, as he bullied defenders to the rim and put ball handlers in a box on the other end. Southerland plays with a New York City style confidence and aggression. He took on the challenge to test opposing guards from a defensive standpoint which really left a lasting impression. A decisive, athletic guard with grit and a solid mid-range pull-up game. Walker’s skill set can compliment Southerland well, being that he’s more of a pass-first style guard. Walker showcased some slithery ball handling, and elite court vision as he easily found cutters and penetrated the lane to create offense. Walker also showcased he has some grit of his own, and is capable of sitting down on defense.
Huntington Prep has a Young Star in Dazon Reid
2027 guard Dazon Reid was one of the most athletic players to participate in camp this weekend. The 6-foot-3 guard lived on the rim during camp, and even tried to challenge multiple defenders at the basket. Reid has an extremely high motor and showcased his skills and effort by running the floor hard, cleaning the glass and playing with high energy.
Zion Dixon has Real Game
6-foot-6 wing Zion Dixon was very impressive this weekend and left camp with an All-Star nod. Dixon is a tough matchup for opposing players and teams because of his deep skill set, combined with his size and length. The senior forward can handle the rock on the perimeter, catch and shoot, fill the lanes in transition and play above the rim. Dixon will be a key piece in the success of the Largo Lions alongside top-65 recruit Cam Ward.
