Cardinal Hayes Comes Away From CHSAA vs PSAL Showdown Victorious

As one of the handful of local matchups on the docket for JHC, Cardinal Hayes and South Shore featured two of the top programs in their respective leagues. After some departures from last year’s teams on both sides, both programs are still trying to find their new identities. 2026 guard David Gaymon was fantastic for Cardinal Hayes, finishing with 21 points on 11 shots, including 4-of-5 from deep. Gaymon was equally effective on the defensive end, with 3 steals and 2 blocks. Freshman guards Brice Yancey and Suleymane Kone both had some nice moments and combined for 18 points between them.

South Shore was paced by senior wing Nevion Legree as well as forwards Shemari Mitchell (2025) and Kaiden Francis (2026). Legree played in a point forward role, racking up 8 assists to go with his 14 points, while Mitchell battled down low and Francis spaced the floor with his shooting. The Vikings stayed close throughout but ultimately didn’t have the offense to keep up.
