2024 Main Event Program Preview: SoCal Academy
December 4, 2024 by Brian Flinn
The 2024 Main Event tips off on Friday. With 10 teams playing in 7 games across two days, the Main event will offer several teams a way to truly test themselves on a national level. With the games being streamed on the NBA App, the MADE Hoops Main Event will have all eyes on Miami this weekend. The opening game features SoCal Academy who faces local powerhouse Riviera Prep. With that in mind, MADE highlights some players to know and things to look for for the Bears heading into the weekend.
Future WVU Duo Headlines Senior Class
This is the first year that Kelvin Odih and Trent MacLean have been teammates, but it certainly won’t be the last. Both will call Morgantown, West Virginia home and suit up for the Mountaineers. Odih will be an early fan favorite with his defense and highlight reel dunks while Maclean brings size, skill, and athleticism to be an intriguing piece for the Mountaineers for years to come. While they’re far from the only high level players on the roster, the senior duo will certainly feature heavily.
Good Test For Godson Okokoh
As a top 30 sophomore in the country, Godson Okokoh is more often than not, one of the more highly touted players on the floor and finds that players go at him in an attempt to prove themselves. Friday offers a potential switch in roles, as there’s a world where he matches up with a top-15 player in his class in Jeremy Jenkins. It’s an intriguing potential matchup to watch to open things up, as both players are going to need to be productive to come out with a victory.
Keep an Eye On Jachai Cantave
Historically, SoCal Academy has done a great job of developing their guards and has seen several come in as low-to-mid major guys and develop into power five players during that time. Junior guard Jachai Cantave is potentially one of those guys. With a number of mid-majors currently recruiting him, the crafty scorer will have the chance to develop and round out the rest of his game over the next two seasons. He could be one of the bigger stock risers coming out of the Bears season.
