2024 National Prep Showcase Day Two Storylines

Every year some of the top prep programs from across the country make the trip to New Haven to play in the NERR National Prep Showcase at Albertus Magnus College. Seen as the “unofficial” start to the prep season in the Northeast, the NPS is as strong as ever this year. MADE takes a look at some of the big storylines coming out of the second of three days of action:

A Pair Of Sleepers Shine in Primetime

The Newman School (MA) vs Sunrise Christian (KS) game was one of the best of the weekend thus far. Sunrise jumped out to an early lead and ended up taking a 52-37 lead into halftime. Oklahoma native Jalen Hayes was highly impressive as a scorer, rebounder and distributor throughout. Now 2026 wing Timmy Bollin, a fiery competitor by nature, came out pushing his team in the second half that saw Newman ultimately force overtime before running out of gas late. Bollin’s passing, defense, and rebounding allowed him to impact the game without necessarily scoring, but he was aggressive, slashing to the basket and finishing with 25 points in the loss.

Hunter Te Ratana Brings International Flavor to Darrow

A native of New Zealand, Te Ratana is entering his first season at Darrow. The former NBA Academy guard looks right at home in his new surroundings, leading Darrow with 14 points and  4 rebounds in a lopsided victory. He knocked down three threes and showcased the ability to put the ball on the floor and finish at the rim as well. Albany offered the talented guard last week, and will likely be joined by a couple of programs who chose to stay for the nightcap after this weekend.

Keep an Eye On Ruey Ruey

Since arriving at Massanutten (VA), Ruey Ruey has made an impact. The Junior guard was great against South Kent (CT), going 4-for-8 from beyond the arc en route to a team high 24 points. But it’s the overall development of his skillset and floor game that’s truly impressive. He played with the ball in his hands a bit and at 6-foot-6, provides defensive versatility along the perimeter. College programs have begun to take notice, but things are going to really take off if he can continue to shoot it consistently from deep.

Maryland Has A Future Star In Christian Jeffrey

Simply put,New York native Christian Jeffrey has turned in as good of a 2024 as any guard in the Northeast. On Saturday he was great attacking the basket and picking out teammates on the move despite playing injured. It was a key deflection by Jeffrey in the end that helped lead Mount Zion to a hard fought win. The 6-foot-2 guard has improved his passing and floor game as well as his shooting immensely in recent months. In that time, he also committed to Maryland. A hard-nosed guard who communicates and defends at a high level, it’s easy to see a future where Jeffrey’s style of play helps him become an early fan favorite in College Park and a multi-year starter.

With one more full slate of games left, the action should remain high on our final day at Albertus Magnus. Stay locked in with MADE for the entirety of the National Prep Showcase.
