2024-25's 20 Non-All American One & Done Candidates

To set the table, let's take a look back at the recent history of one & done's. Over the last seven NBA Draft's, there have been a total of 131 collegiate one & done prospects to enter their respective drafts. Of those 131, 85 were former McDonald's All-American selections. By average, it comes out to 18.7 NCAA one & done prospects per cycle, with 12.1 being former McDonald's All-American selections. Below is the breakdown by cycle:

2024 NBA Draft

14 One and Done NCAA prospects

8 were former McDAA’s

2023 NBA Draft

20 One and Done NCAA prospects

14 were former MCDAA’s

2022 NBA Draft

23 One and Done NCAA prospects

14 were former MCDAA’s

2021 NBA Draft

19 One and Done NCAA prospects

12 were former MCDAA’s

2020 NBA Draft

18 One and Done NCAA prospects

11 were former MCDAA’s

2019 NBA Draft

19 One and Done NCAA prospects

12 were former MCDAA’s

2018 NBA Draft

19 One and Done NCAA prospects

14 were former MCDAA’s

The begging question with this project over the last three years has been, where do the other 6.6 one & done prospects per cycle come from? Here's what I've learned; both international prospects coming directly to the NCAA, who are of course ineligible for the McDonald's All American Game, as well as reclassifications up, continue to heavily be a piece of this puzzle. Looking back to just this last cycle, Johnny Furphy, Kyshawn George and Yves Missi fit the bill. This trend should only tilt upwards given the sheer volume of high level international prospects taking their talents to the NCAA given the prevalence of NIL. But, the core of the project is identifying incoming freshmen who were less touted and missed the All-American cut. In the 2024 draft, that group included Rob Dillingham -- not less touted, but had been deemed ineligible for the McDAAG because of Overtime Elite at the time -- Bub Carrington and Cam Christie.

We saw a record-low (in the last seven cycles) of NCAA one & done prospects to stay in the field in 2024, which checks out considering the 2023 high school class was unanimously touted as a down one as well the large boost in NIL numbers which helped with retention. Turning the page to the 2025 draft, those numbers should tick a bit closer to the average.

In alphabetical order, here are my Top-20 NCAA prospects with one & done potential who weren't selected as McDonald's All-Americans, along with a list of international NCAA prospects who do not fit the guardrails of qualifying for this project, but should be closely monitored.
