2026 G Ethan Butler's Breakout Begins
February 1, 2025 by Brian Reichert
In the preseason there was some buzz building around a group of rising juniors who were ready to break out this year in the Catholic League. One of those names that has really stepped up is 6’6” guard Ethan Butler of St. Francis Prep. MADE takes a look at his progress and production for the Terriers.
Butler made his varsity debut last season as a sophomore but he found it hard to crack the rotation. He instead used the year to get comfortable, stronger, gain confidence and prepare himself for his Junior season. When a few key guards decided to leave the program it opened up more minutes and shots for Butler. St. Francis Prep held open gym workouts where tremendous flashes from Butler would occur and he looked ready to make an impact.
Fast forward and look at the Terriers today they currently are 18-2, undefeated in league play and are closing in rapidly on a top 25 national ranking. Butler has been a huge reason for their success as he’s become their third star alongside All-CHSAA selections Vere Anthony and Oesoemana Sacko. He’s averaging almost 16 points a game, he’s led them in scoring in multiple games and Butler is quickly turning himself into one of the top prospects in the league.
Simply put, he’s a matchup nightmare. He scores around the basket, makes threes, understands how to get open and is deadly from his spots. The coaching staff trusts Butler on the floor and are trying to get him involved in the offense even more. His success has taken so much stress off the other two stars it’s really allowed the program to take the next step. Expect many more D1 programs besides just Manhattan and Iona to be involved by the time he plays AAU.
