West MSA: 2027 Top-20 All Star Game
June 13, 2023 by Max Feldman
Las Vegas, Nevada served home to 2023's West MSA. Here, I'll zoom in on a 2027 All-Star game full of high level guard play and a number of names to circle early on in the process.

Avery Huston
6-1 Guard | 2027
Turned heads all weekend long. Huston brought value and had a few big outings this past winter with the Rose City Rebels, but West MSA unveiled his full skillset. Dynamic creating off the bounce, Huston got to his spots and pressured the rim at will. Filled it up from the mid-range, broke down defenses with regularity and showcased plenty of natural creativity. Explosive, hard-nosed and capable of shouldering a scoring load, Cascade Christian (OR) has a high level young guard on the way.
Jasiah Williams
6-3 Wing | 2027
One of the Winter Circuit’s finest displayed significant progression in his skillset on the weekend. A twitchy, long, high-wired wing with an impressive defensive work rate and a knack for grabbing & going to spur easy offense. Now fast forward, Williams is beginning to shoot the ball at a very promising clip. Both off the catch and pulling up, the SoCal native found the bottom of the net with consistency, only opening up the rest of his downhill game. A 2027 to keep tabs on at Hesperia (CA).
Zion Grissom
6-2 Guard | 2027
Grissom rose fast this winter with the Oakland Soldiers, and showed some of why in Vegas. A dynamic slasher with a lightning quick first step, he gets downhill off a hurry and plays very well off pivots. Creates space in an array of different ways, getting to his soft touch southpaw stroke or evading length around the rim to finish with fluidity. Tools won’t blow you away, but Grisson has a very intriguing blend of skill and burst as a scorer.
Isaiah Davis
6-2 Guard | 2027
Davis brought value all winter on a guard-laden Seattle Rotary group, but West MSA brought forth more on-ball opportunity. As he did all winter long, Davis filled it up from deep as a catch and shoot scorer. Smooth mechanics, mature shot prep and relocates well off the ball. Showed well with further opportunity, driving closeouts and leveraging his gravity to get to his mid-range pull-up or soft touch push shot. Plays with a mature approach and does a variety of things that get him on the court regardless of the setting.
Cole White
6-0 Guard | 2027
Not many, if any, who brought more energy and intensity all weekend long. White had big moments throughout the West Circuit earlier on in the year and brought more of the same in Vegas. A well-built, strong guard loaded with burst, he put pressure on the rim, pushed in transition and drew rotations to make plays for the guys around him consistently. In a setting where many could play ‘Olay’ defense, White pressured the ball and picked up guys out in space. Plays extremely hard and looks like no fun to line up against.
Efe Atane
6-3 Guard | 2027
One of the prime new names to arise on the weekend in Vegas, Atane strung together big flashes and has plenty of long-term indicators. A twitchy athlete with length on his frame and raw creation ability, he thrived attacking closeouts and running through the catch to get downhill against a tilted defense. Down the latter end of the weekend, Atane shot the ball very well, all coming off the dribble. Stocked with upside.
Jaylan Virgil
6-0 Guard | 2027
A skilled bucket-getter who can score it in bunches. Plenty of buckets were given out over the course of the weekend, but no one converted more tough ones than Virgil. Playing off pivots, nailing step backs and comfortable playing in traffic, he’s capable of getting hot quick and tilting a game. Tough shot maker.
Brenden Hawkins
6-0 Guard | 2027
All the little things to impact winning. In a setting where guys can get caught in the habit of taking bad shots and not playing out possessions, Hawkins thrived as a cutter, rebounder and connector. Skilled on the ball and showed to be capable of creating his own in spurts, but evidently made it a priority to do the little things and outwork guys around him. Impressively mature approach and demeanor.
Lleyton Leonard
6-3 Wing | 2028
One of just two who played up all weekend, Leonard continues to build early momentum. A mismatch southpaw wing with excellent feel and balance as a slasher, playing through smaller guys and blowing by guys closer to his size. Showed to be at his best attacking downhill as a slasher and as a dive-man, slipping screens to attack the cup. Measurables, ball skills and a budding feel for the game, he’s one to circle early on in 2028.
JJ Sati-Grier
5-9 Guard | 2028
Wasn’t the first time Sati-Grier had the gym buzzing and certainly won’t be the last, and doing so while playing up. Rare to come across too many guards with as much skill and feel as on-ball creator this young. A nuanced ball-handler with mature flow and tempo getting into ball screens, now shooting it at even a higher level since off the dribble since the winter. Creates separation, sheds defenders to get downhill and thrives setting the table for guys around him. An advanced floor game with fluidity getting to his spots, Sati-Grier’s skillset continues to progress at a promising clip.
Bryan Ramirez
5-11 Guard | 2027
A hard-nosed pass, dribble, shoot threat in the backcourt. Ramirez was at his best as a secondary guard attacking closeouts and reading the tilted defenses. There’s a strong blend of feel and skill level, stringing together big sequences both as an initiator or secondary creator. Like the edge he brings to the table, in addition to versatility in the backcourt.
Lamarr Covington
6-0 Guard | 2027
Under the radar for some of the weekend, mixing in intriguing flashes to grab an All-Star game spot, but the All-Star game was a highly impressive showing. Strong guard with feel as a driver, quick counters and a promising shooting stroke to keep defenses on their heels. Physical, hyper-competitive and brings a no frills approach in the backcourt.
