Sophomore PG Anderson Diaz Talks Move To Woodmere, Recruitment, and Winning an MHC Title

Anderson Diaz has laid the groundwork to cement himself as one of the best prospects nationally in the class of 2027. The southpaw guard is a NYC native, and it’s not hard to tell once he gets in between those lines. Diaz has been trending upwards since his freshman debut at St. Ray’s, following up by winning a MHC Championship with Kips Bay this past summer. Diaz caught up with MADE to recap his grassroots experience, transferring schools and update us on his recruitment.

Diaz joined forces with some of New York’s best young talent and took over the MHC circuit with KIps Bay. As the lead guard for his team he showcased how his game translates to the next level, in a winning fashion.

“My summer has been great, it’s been a lot of working out and in the gym. I didn't play many games and mainly focused on working on my craft, to get ready to perform in front of college coaches. Playing with Kips Bay is always a blessing because that’s my hometown team. Playing with them in the MHC was amazing because we won the championship, and I also got to play with my closest friends. It was a great opportunity for Kips to showcase our talent and it’s great playing for Coach Kenny Satterfield.”

Diaz started his career with St. Raymond’s last season, putting together some noteworthy performances throughout the year and gaining a national buzz. He’s recently announced his decision to transfer schools, and attend Lawrence Woodmere to play for Coach Satterfield and Tiny Morton.

“I felt the decision would be better for me in the long run and I would be playing against better competition on a larger stage. Playing for Coach Satterfield and Coach Morton also played a big role in my decision to make the move.”

With Diaz gearing up for an important sophomore season, he mentioned some things he learned last season and what to expect from him this upcoming year.

“I learned a lot in my freshman year with St. Ray’s. Everything an incoming freshman should learn, whether it’s on the defensive side of the ball or on offense, like reading the help side defenders and making the correct reads no matter what. Always being coachable and things like that, always being in the gym trying to get better. Listening to everything Coach Kenny and Coach Tiny have been telling me because I want to learn from them, they’ve done it before in every aspect of the game. I expect a lot of winning this season and just showing everybody I can be a true point guard and a leader.”

In a short amount of time Diaz has seen his recruitment start to increase, with schools like Seton Hall and Villanova being the latest programs to offer the 2027 guard.

“The relationship I have with the coaches that are recruiting me is great, and it’s been a blessing to be able to speak on the phone with them. There are a few coaches on my radar right now but I’m just waiting for the right time and right moment for everything to happen. It’s definitely a blessing to be recruited at an early age like this.”

Aside from Villanova and Seton Hall, Diaz holds offers from St. John’s, Hampton, Fordham, and Cincinnati.
