Boogie Fland Chooses To Play For National Champion Gators

Over the past few seasons in the NYC CHSAA, 2024 point guard Boogie Fland from Archbishop Stepinac (NY) was flat-out dominant. He was named MVP, won multiple championships, and earned a prestigious spot as a McDonald’s All-American. His decision to sign with Kentucky sparked controversy after his head coach left for Arkansas—but Fland decided to follow him.

Things started off strong for both Arkansas and Fland, but an injury to his right thumb slowed everything down. He required surgery to repair his UCL and fix the issue, and while many assumed his season was over, Fland fought back ferociously. He returned just in time for Arkansas' NCAA Tournament run, which included a couple of wins—highlighted by a massive upset over No. 2 seed St. John’s. After a tough loss to Texas Tech, Fland made the decision to move on.

He entered his name into the NBA Draft, testing the waters to see how he stacked up against the competition. Still recovering from the injury, Fland leaned on his confidence and mentality, believing he could hold his own. After meeting with his team and family, the decision was made: he’d return to college and enter the transfer portal.

That move immediately sent shockwaves through the recruiting world. Nearly every high-level program in the country checked in to see if they had a shot. Early speculation pointed to St. John’s, but with the Red Storm's already loaded backcourt, it didn’t seem like the perfect fit.

Once Fland officially withdrew from the draft, a new contender began to emerge. Florida, fresh off a National Championship, entered the picture—and momentum shifted quickly. Yesterday, Fland ended all speculation, announcing that he’ll be signing with the Gators, hoping to help the program go back-to-back.

Boogie Fland in orange and blue? Can’t wait to see him suit up for Florida.
