MADE Here: Five-Star Guard & MADE Hoops Alum Boogie Fland Commits to Kentucky

THE LEAD

Five-star guard and MADE Hoops alum Boogie Fland has committed to Kentucky over Indiana and Alabama, joining Somto Cyril in the Wildcats’ 2024 recruiting class.

BACKGROUND

Fland has been a mainstay towards the top of the rankings for the past couple of years now. He had an up and down summer on the EYBL Circuit, but his overall body or work outweighs that stretch of a couple of months, and he was one of the standouts at Team USA’s Minicamp a few weeks back.

Out of his finalists, he visited Indiana in June, and Kentucky and Alabama within a two-week span in September. The Hoosiers carried momentum for a few weeks, but when Kentucky put on the full court press, the tides slowly turned in their favor before becoming heavily tilted towards the ‘Cats down the stretch.

WHAT'S NEXT

Fland joins four-star big man Somto Cyril as the second piece to Kentucky’s recruiting class. Five-star forward Jayden Quaintance visits Kentucky next weekend and is viewed as one of the potential Crown Jewels of their class. Quaintance’s top three options are Kentucky, Missouri, and G-League Ignite.

Kentucky is also firmly in the mix for four-star wing Billy Richmond and just made the final four for four-star guard Karter Knox. They're also recruiting the state of Kentucky's all-time leading scorer in Travis Perry. The Wildcats will also have a couple of reclass options possibly pop up in the future.

MY TAKE

John Calipari’s best teams have guards that can go get their own bucket at a moment’s notice, and that’s what Fland can do. He’s able to get to the rim with burst and wiggle, and can also knock down jumpers off of the bounce. Fland is young enough to be a 2025 recruit if he wanted to be, so the upside with his age and trajectory is promising under a professional guard factory even if it were to take two years. Being a NYC guard, his swagger on the court will help him transition to the bright lights of a blue blood.
