Takeaways From the Brooklyn Battle Between Nazareth & Canarsie
January 4, 2025 by Casey Williams
It was a packed house tuned in for these two Brooklyn staples as Nazareth welcomed in Canarsie! The game got off to a great start as PJ Singleton had it going early for Canarsie with a pair of 3’s. Equally impressive was Halon Rawlins knocking down perimeter shots and getting out in transition leading his team to a 26-15 first quarter lead.
Although the game had a lot of high level moments, most of the night was fairly lopsided evident by Nazareth 58-28 lead going into the fourth quarter before finishing with a final score of Nazareth 78, Canarsie 63.
Rawlins scored his 1,00th point in the win. The senior guard showed why he is one of the top players in the league. Knocking down long range shots, finishing in crowds and defending with intensity. His backcourt mate AJ Moody, was the fastest guy on the court all night. He was quick off the dribble with elite playmaking ability going north and south, he set his teammates up all.
Singleton tried to keep his squad in the game with his scoring. Making long three point shots, playing out of the post and taking on any defensive matchup. Senior Forward Devin Clark was able to have his way most of the time in the post, he showed he can play on the perimeter when needed.
In the end it was too much for a Canarsie team that certainly looks up to the task of contending for a PSAL 4A Brooklyn crown. Look for both teams to be near the top of their respective leagues.
