The Basketball Odyssey Of Reuben Chavez
November 11, 2024 by Brian Flinn
Reuben Chavez, owner of Gameday Results, has an impressive career span with over 10 years of professional basketball experience encompassing the international circuit, High school, AAU, NCAAM, and the NBA. Chavez’s personal goal is to provide generational health to all of his clients. With a fundamental approach to body awareness,Chavez layers functional body and brain modalities that every athlete can apply to their daily routine.
Reuben’s basketball journey started in 2014 when he had the opportunity to work with a former NBA player in China - giving him insight on the physical, emotional and mental stress a players body endures and the variables of working internationally. When he returned to Las Vegas from China, he reconnected with Bishop Gorman Basketball and spent 6 years traveling around the USA in national tournaments and was part of winning many state championships. The exposure to high level high school basketball at Gorman during that time helped him to connect with many people at the grassroots level.
In 2019 Chavez was asked by Vegas Elite if he could attend session 1 with their EYBL team which was his first time working an AAU tournament with future NBA players Jaden Hardy and Julian Strawther. He quickly realized he was the only sports performance therapist employed by a team, as most organizations do not budget or bring their own therapist for their players ro receive injury prevention, body maintenance, or post-game recovery.
The last few years Chavez has worked with Paul George Elite on the EYBL circuit helping players across age groups within the program.
“I now see some teams bringing their own therapist which I applaud. The earlier we can raise a player's self awareness level in taking care of their health physically, mentally, and spiritually, the better chances we have that it transfers over into their personal life journey. We have to remember, the ball does stop at some point and they need tools that help them play the long game of life.” he said.
In 2023 Chavez decided to move his family back home to Houston, Texas. Before they could complete the move he was asked by Jonathan Kuminga if he could be part of his team that off-season for the summer. Chavez had worked with Kuminga from the time that he was 16, so he jumped at the opportunity .
”I was more excited that a young player like himself already knew the level of importance in receiving treatment daily before his court workouts and after and in between….We put in work that summer and we did again this past summer. It was a daily grind putting in daily deposits waking up at 4:30am and I can tell you one thing. To stay and be in the league, it's not easy. The only person who's holding you accountable is you on the days you don't want to workout-and we didn't miss any days. The NBA isn't giving out opportunities for just anyone to play in their league, it's earned.” Chavez said.
As an expert sports performance therapist, the demand for Chavez’s skills are high. It’s given him the opportunity to travel across the country helping the next generation of hoopers who aspire to play the game at the highest levels. Some of college players Chavez has worked with in the past this year in order to get ready for the 2023-24 NCAAM season:
Jase Richardson (Michigan State)
Carter Byrant (Arizona)
Emmanuel Stephen (Arizona)
Jamarri Phillips (Oregon)
Aiden Sherrel (Alabama)
Milos Uzan (Houston)
Richard Isaacs (Creighton)
James Evans (UNLV)
AJ Storr (Kansas)
Frankie Collins (TCU)
Spencer Mahoney (Cal)
Chavez has partnered with MADE Hoops and will also be at East Session 1 this weekend at The Virginia Beach Sportsplex, as well as numerous other stops in the future. Interested in a session? Be sure to check in with him either via email or at the gym during those events.
