2024 G Deuce Jones commits to La Salle

THE LEAD

Uber-talented 2024 G Deuce Jones out of College Achieve (NJ) has committed to La Salle. The Trenton, NJ native chose the Explorers over Florida International, Temple, Fairfeld and Duquesne.

BACKGROUND

Jones has been a standout on the East Coast going back to his 8th grade year, impressing with his ability to get downhill and score in the lane. This spring and summer with Shoreshots Rio, he generated 10 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals per game while thriving as a transition scorer. The hyper-competitive guard transferred from Trenton Catholic (NJ) to College Achieve (NJ) for his senior campaign.

WHAT'S NEXT?

One one of the youngest rosters in the A-10, the Explorers ushered four freshman this offseason and have a total of seven underclassmen in 2023-24. These past few weeks, it seemed clear Fran Dunphy and company had their eyes set on a guard in the class of 2024. Jones checks that box. Now, I'd expect them to try to get older via the portal heading into next season.

MY TAKE

Jones has a very promising blend of scalability to the next level, as well as upside long-term. His ability to pressure the rim and get a defense in rotation should translate from the jump in the A-10. Last season, the Explorers largely struggled scoring inside the arc. They bring their guard tandem back this season, so that should improve, but infusing Jones' knack for generating easy buckets by playing up tempo and slicing open defenses with his change of gears should provide value early on. His level of competitiveness has popped each step of the way, while also steadily improving as a playmaker and shooter from three. There's a ton to like with Jones as a driver, defender and athlete at the next level.
