TCU inks it's second commitment in as many days; Top-100 big Malick Diallo chooses the Horned Frogs

THE LEAD
Top-100 2024 big Malick Diallo has committed to TCU. The Malian national also took visits to California, Vanderbilt, Loyola Chicago and BYU.
BACKGROUND
A unique road to Top-100 status for Diallo, as he broke out at the FIBA U17 World Cup last year prior to coming over to Wasatch Academy (UT). With the Malian National Team, he put up 13 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 stocks per game in Spain. Since his arrival stateside, high majors have been tracking closely. The Horned Frogs hosted Diallo for an official about a month ago, and wind up sealing the deal
WHAT'S NEXT?
It's been a big month or so for the TCU staff -- landing three key commitments, all whom fit their hard-nosed, defensive mentality to a tee. Miles Goodman, David Punch and Nic Codie were squarely in the mix, and may remain so, but the Horned Frogs have filled holes in the backcourt, on the wing and in the frontcourt in Simmons, Robinson and now Diallo. In terms of his individual development, he'll have to continue growing as a decision-maker and finisher in half-court offense.
MY TAKE
The versatility and unique playmaking feel mixed with traditional rim-running traits spurred the initial intrigue with Diallo. Since arriving in Utah, he's had some ups and downs in terms of producing consistently as a finisher and offensive threat as a whole. Adding strength, specifically in his lower body, will be key moving forward in his transition to the Big 12. At 6-10, he moves vastly better than most at his size and runs the floor exceptionally hard. In 3SSB action, he grabbed 7 boards, blocked 2 shots and added 7 points per game with the Utah Prospects. As a rebounder, transition finisher and rim protector, he should be capable of impacting the game rather quick. In time, with reps, I'd expect him to take on more responsibility as a short roll playmaker, grab & go threat and switchable defender.
