NEPSAC Showcase: Wings Breakdown

Babson College: The NEPSAC Showcase always hosts a wide collection of talent, plus you can rely on some new names & late-bloomers to emerge during this live period event. There were close to 200 college coaches in attendance on Day One and more continued to fill out the gym throughout the weekend. Read more for extensive analysis on some prospects who caught my eye.

Daniel Johnson
2024 | Wing | Brewster Academy (NH)

Johnson announced he’d be attending Brewster Academy (NH) in late May and he needed little time to settle in with his new team at the NEPSAC Showcase. He’s a well-built & rangy athlete who flashed growing polish on the offensive end. Skilled face-up scorer who was highly fundamental yet effective when getting to his spots in the mid-range area. Powerful & explosive finisher at the rim who was unphased by contact or length in the lane. St. Louis is the latest to offer and I’m sure more programs will enter his recruitment after this weekend.

Mason Blackwood
2025 | Wing | New Hampton School (NH)

The City Rocks product had his fair share of promising moments over the weekend. Aggressive, tough athlete who is a mismatch nightmare given his ability to score inside & out. Physical slasher with a quick first step to get downhill, plus he’s a fluid face-up scorer. He’s become much more comfortable creating space off the bounce, yet he’s proved to be capable of knocking down pull-up jumpers as well. Capable spot-up shooter who can stretch the floor on the perimeter, although most of his damage was done on the drive this weekend. Toolsy defender with plenty of intrigue to develop into a switchable specimen. Marquette, George Mason, Siena, and a few others have already offered.

Jaylen Harrell
2025 | Wing | CATS Academy (MA)

One of the biggest stockrisers this spring has been the shotmaking wing out of Massachusetts. Skilled & potent mid-range scorer who excels at generating space with tight crossovers & advanced footwork. Dangerous isolation weapon who flashed his multilevel scoring talents over the weekend at the NEPSAC Showcase. Continues to show glimpses of an improving feel, specifically when passing out of the high-post or double teams. Tough positional rebounder who plays physical on the glass and tends to be productive. Alabama, Washington, Georgetown, Wake Forest, & more have offered this spring.

Ryan Mela
2024 | Wing | Newman School (MA)

Mela is somewhat of a late-bloomer who has made notable improvements within his game in the past year or so. Aggressive slasher who showed off a blossoming pass, dribble & shoot skillset. Leverages a quick first step to gain ground when attacking off the bounce, plus he had a strong sense of using his body to create advantages. A tough and hard-nosed finisher who possesses evident touch at the rim. Reliable spot-up shooting threat who has the versatility to hurt defenses from multiple levels. UMass, Davidson, Maine, & more have offered the Middlesex Magic product.

Ryder Frost
2025 | Wing | Phillips Exeter (NH)

Frost was one of the more prominent stockrisers this weekend and he caught the eye of numerous college coaches. Fundamentally sound & skilled wing who is a knockdown shooter off the catch from three-point range. Attacked closeouts with a feel & tight handle, plus he flashed some touch at the rim. Capable pull-up scorer who showed glimpses of a diversifying & growing shot profile. Heady cutter who is constantly moving or looking for space without the ball in his hands. Fairfield and Le Moyne became the first programs to offer Frost during the NEPSAC Showcase.

Joson Sanon
2025 | Wing | Vermont Academy (VT)

The Top-10 2025 prospect has been garnering buzz throughout the spring while playing up an age division on the EYBL Circuit. Sanon brings a mature approach to the floor with his composed & paced scoring attack. Knockdown spot-up weapon with polished shooting mechanics and a quick release off the catch. Potent pull-up scorer who has shown notable growth as a processor in the last year or so. Agile, instinctual, & rangy defender who showed flashes of his defensive playmaking when jumping passing lanes. Marquette, UConn, Georgetown, Washington, & more have offered the Massachusetts native.

Ryan Altman
2025 | Wing | Rivers School (MA)

Altman is a rapidly improving wing who is set to his recruitment & stock rise in the next few months.  He may not be the most explosive or flashy athlete, yet he’s highly effective & calculated within his offensive approach. Active & heady cutter who earned his fair share of open layups by moving without the ball. Potent mid-range scorer who leveraged a tight crossover to create enough space for pull-up jumpers inside the arc. Flashed his value as a connector by locating cutters & utilizing his feel to stay a step ahead of the defense. Boston University is his only offer at this point, however more schools should be joining that list very soon.

Kelvin Odih
2025 | Wing | South Kent School (CT)

Odih recently made the decision to reclassify and attend South Kent (CT) for his junior season. Well-built & powerful athlete who was constantly moving without the ball in his hands. Tough, hard-nosed finisher who is loaded with vertical pop and aggression at the rim. Still developing his overall polish and touch, yet the physical tools give him plenty of upside to tap into down the road. Laterally quick defender who is able to guard in space, plus he has the physicality to wall-off opposing slashers. A dangerous grab and go threat in the open floor who can get up & down the floor quickly after securing rebounds or outlet passes. Marquette offered after this weekend’s action and Odih is another stockriser to track in the Northeast.

Barrett Loer
2025 | Wing | St. George’s School (RI)

Loer has made evident growth & strides within his game since I last saw him live this past winter. He’s a fluid & bouncy athlete with a smooth shooting stroke at 6’6”. Reliable spot-up shooter who proved he has the burst & feel to attack poor closeouts off the bounce. Flexible finisher at the rim with evident touch, plus it’s clear he has a knack for weaving through traffic. Willing playmaker who flashed a growing feel by making the right read in dribble-drive situations. Prominent mid-range scorer that is comfortable settling for one & two dribble pull-up jumpers inside the arc. Bryant is the latest to offer, however he’s another prospect that should see his recruitment rise in the coming weeks.

Vincent Chaudhri
2025 | Wing | Northfield Mount Hermon (MA)

Chaudhri popped as an intriguing long-term prospect throughout the weekend at the NEPSAC Showcase. Long, rangy and fluid athlete who glides up & down the floor with the ball in his hands. Utilized ample ground coverage to be highly productive as a slasher & driver. Smooth spot-up scorer with range that extends out to the three-point line, yet there’s room to enhance his comfortability & confidence. Flashed his switchability on the defensive end by holding his own in space or the post. The Riverside Hawks product could be set to have a big summer & junior season. Oklahoma State, Iowa, St. John’s, & more have offered the New York native.
