Decision Preview: Aiden Sherrell

6'10" 2024 forward Aiden Sherrell recently cracked the top 25 of the MADE Hoops rankings, and there may be a case that his current ranking is still too low. The skilled, high-upside forward is slated to make his college decision this upcoming Sunday, August 13th, choosing between five finalists: Alabama, Michigan State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Texas. Below, we dive into his game and a decision preview.

Breaking Down Sherrell's Game

As mentioned above, Sherrell is ranked inside the top 25 in the 2024 recruiting class, but due to his versatility and the way the game has trended for big men and forwards over the past half decade, it still may be too low and something we will look at as a collective unit here in the coming weeks during the next big update. He's versatile at 6'10", moves very well in a straight line and laterally, and continues to expand his offensive repertoire. During EYBL play this spring and summer, Sherrell averaged 12.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.75 stocks per game for a Vegas Elite team that finished as runners up in Peach Jam. During this time, he also showed the long-term upside to be able to knock down outside jumpers and has gained comfort from that area of the floor over the past year, and has a knack for hitting mid-range shots as well.

Defensively, he can switch onto guards for a moment or two, unable to be completely targeted with ball screens. His athleticism and length will also allow him to become more of a polished rim protector with advances in his timing. Sherrell's long-term projection as a floor-stretching athletic forward that can run the floor, catch lobs, and have bright spots of defensive havoc should have him on 2025 NBA mock draft boards the moment he steps on campus.

Decision Preview

The top 25 prospect will be making his decision this Sunday. Leading up to his commitment, Sherrell has taken official visits to Alabama, Michigan State, St. John's, Oklahoma, and Ohio State, four of which make up his five finalists. However, while there are five finalists, this recruitment has been trending one direction for about half a year now. I entered a Rivals FutureCast for Sherrell to Alabama back on February 7th of this year, and I'll be sticking with that prediction as his commitment nears.

If Sherrell chooses to play for Nate Oats and the Crimson Tide, he would fit pretty perfectly into the same role which Noah Clowney thrived in last year. Alabama's system fits Sherrell perfectly, and I would expect to see his three-point shooting continue to progress as well. The fast-paced offense and spacing would really allow Sherrell to develop and play to his strengths.
