Uncommon 40: Competition, Camaraderie, and Community in SoCal

From May 30th to June 1st, 40 standout boys and 40 standout girls were brought together from all over the country at Azusa Pacific University for the ARNG Uncommon 40, hosted by MADE Hoops alongside an elite group of high school and AAU coaches. The weekend brought together top talent from across the nation for a fun, competitive, and high-energy experience that went far beyond the basketball court. 

In addition to daily training and gameplay, campers heard from guest speakers, geared up with the newest offerings from McDavid, and stayed hydrated all weekend thanks to Bodyarmor and Nesquik. They also took part in team-building and recovery-focused activities, including a yoga session with Cambria Keefer, a night out at Dave & Buster’s, and a high-intensity workout led by Army personnel that pushed them both physically and mentally. Kevin Thomas came away with the VKTRY Dunk Contest title, while Jashawn “JJ” Andrews and Carter Basquez took home the Wilson 3PT Contest crown.

A highlight of the weekend was the presentation of the inaugural LDRSHIP Awards — presented by the Army National Guard — recognizing three players for their leadership, character, and impact on others: Jashawn “JJ” Andrews (Midwest), Luke Barnett (West), and Sammy Jackson (East).

From start to finish, Uncommon 40 blended serious competition with a memorable atmosphere — celebrating not just great players, but great people.
