Woodmere Wipes Out Eagle Brooklyn


The New York basketball community saw a terrific non league matchup between Lawrence Woodmere Academy and Eagle Academy Brooklyn. Woodmere has had an excellent first season under new Head Coach Tiny Morton and they were looking to make a statement against the former PSAL champs. These two programs are two of the strongest in the state plus they each featured several talented college prospects. 
 
Woodmere was able to get some early scoring from their front court but Junior 6’3” SG Rich Jackson answered with a three for Eagle plus Sophomore 5’11” PG Amir Dockery added five quick points. The Tigers got a bucket from Sophomore 6’1” PG Anderson Diaz, Eagle hit a three, LWA missed, 6’8” Senior Forward Jeremiah Jacobs converted an and1. Lawrence Woodmere turned it over, Eagle scored and then 6’1” Senior G Kaleb Popotte took over. He hit three triples in the quarter, he had two tough and1s he converted and seemed like he was going for 50.
 
The Eagles trailed 25-16 after the first when Jackson knocked down two free throws, Tigers threw it away, Dockery scored, LWA missed and Jacobs converted a tough and1. Tigers drilled a pull up, Jacobs went 1/2 at the line, Woodmere missed and Dockery drilled a triple. 6” Junior PG Troy Fason blew by the defense for two, Jacobs scored inside, Tigers went 1/2 at the line, Dockery got by his man for two, Diaz drilled a three then found a cutter for a score after a stop. Jackson split a pair, LWA turned it over, Eagle made two more free throws, Jackson stole the ball and finished for two but the Tigers answered with a quick bucket. 
 
Eagle got a great kick out for three, LWA missed two free throws and the buzzer went off for halftime. The score was tied up at 40 when Fason scored, Eagle answered, blocked a shot then got a three from Dockery. LWA’s big man finished an alley oop, Eagle connected on a three, Dockery stole the pass then finished a lay up for two. Diaz had a nice put back, Eagle scored again, Popotte got free for two then stole the ball and got another bucket. Dockery split his free throws, Fason drilled a three then found Popotte who made a tough hoop plus got fouled. He made it, Jacobs had his own and1 for Eagle, Diaz buried a deep three then after an Eagle miss Popotte drew the foul. 
 
Tigers went 1/2 from the line, Jackson made two after getting fouled and now Eagle only trailed 60-58 heading into the fourth. Jacobs started the fourth with a bucket, Diaz knocked down a three, Jacobs scored inside but the Tigers answered. Popotte got another steal for two, Eagle missed, Fason finished a lay up and Jacobs drew a foul. He went 1/2, Tigers scored, Eagle missed, Fason hit a huge three but Jackson responded with back to back triples for Eagle. 
 
Fason made a free throw, Eagles threw it away, Fason scored, Eagles drilled a three them after a stop Jackson buried another triple. The lead was just down to a single possession late in the fourth but Diaz came down a hit a back breaking three. Eagle missed, fouled Woodmere who went 1/2, Tigers got a quick stop then Diaz hit another three. While the time was running out quick the PSAL powerhouse got a few looks but came up empty and Diaz added another bomb right before the buzzer to seal the win. 
 
Lawrence Woodmere Academy took home a big 87-75 non league victory on the road. Popotte was spectacular leading all scorers with 30 points, Diaz had 25 including 7 triples plus Fason added 15. Jackson lead Eagle with 19 points, Dockery had 18 plus Jacobs finished with 17. These are two tremendous programs on the rise lead by excellent coaching staffs. Expect Woodmere to keep collecting wins while Eagle Bk pushes their way through the PSAL playoffs.
