Akok Akok shines at the Hoop Group Providence Jam Fest

Class of 2019 forward Akok Akok

One of the biggest standouts from this past weekend at the Hoop Group Providence Jam Fest was Mass Rivals forward Akok Akok. The class of 2019 forward is rapidly progressing as a player and his recruitment is reflecting that. He received offers from Louisville, Virginia Tech, Providence and NC State last live period. Akok spoke on how he has expanded his game recently.

“I’ve been trying to get better at shooting the three ball and putting the ball on the floor,” he said. “I’ve been working on attacking the lane and creating for my teammates. My coaches have been putting me in a great position to develop.”

Plenty of schools have jumped into his recruitment, but he could see a local school who has been tracking him for a while extending an offer to him soon.

“My latest offers are from Providence, NC State, Virginia Tech and Louisville,” said Akok. “I definitely could see UConn offering sometime soon. They have been recruiting me since September and I’ve been working toward getting an offer from them ever since.”

Akok has followed the UConn Huskies closely for quite some time.

“They are a really good program even though they had a tough season last year,” Akok said. “I’m looking forward to seeing them improve and get back to being one of the top teams throughout the country.”

Rick Pitino and the Louisville Cardinals were one of the four schools to extend an offer to him recently. Akok is familiar with what Pitino does with his players.

“Louisville has a good program, I watched them play a lot this past year,” he said. “I like what I have seen from them and I like how Coach Pitino lets his guys play.”

Heading into the rest of the summer, Akok is looking to finish the season with a bang.

“I’m just trying to compete and win the whole summer,” said Akok. “I want to go to stops like South Carolina and Las Vegas and win. I just want to go out there and win for our coaches.”
