Class of 2020 guard R.J. Hampton
R.J. Hampton continues to establish himself as one of the premier prospects of the class of 2020. With his skill set and athleticism, he was tough to stop at the Adidas Summer Championships and in one game in particular scored 35 points against a talented team in Team Loaded (VA). After this standout performance, Hampton went into detail on some of his best attributes on the floor.
“When I’m playing well I get my teammates involved and I push the ball every time down the court,” said Hampton. “I try to get to the rack and if that’s not working I hit them with my jump shot.”
Thus far, Kansas, Cal-Berkeley, Texas Tech, Texas, Baylor, SMU, TCU, LSU, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M have all extended offers to Hampton. Four of these schools have already started to go after Hampton the hardest.
“Kansas has been contacting my coaches a lot and Baylor, SMU, Texas have also been in touch frequently,” he said.
Hampton mentioned the schools that have expressed interest in him.
“Duke, North Carolina, UCLA, Oklahoma and some other schools have expressed interest in me,” Hampton said.
The rising sophomore looks to get on some new college campuses soon.
“I went on visits to TCU, Texas and Baylor,” he told MADE Hoops. “I haven’t gone on a visit out of state yet so hopefully I get to some this fall.”
His father played college basketball at SMU who gave him advice before the July live period.
“He’s just been telling me to trust the process and don’t cheat the grind,” he said. “He tells me to keep pushing even when I have bad games in front of college coaches. I have to keep pushing and don’t let it stop.”
