Louis King announced his commitment to the University of Oregon today. The class of 2018 small forward from Hudson Catholic High School, in New Jersey, just finished an official visit with the Ducks two weekends ago. After this visit, Oregon separated themselves from the rest.
“Out of all of my schools I felt like it was best for me and my family,” he told MADE Hoops. “Coach Altman said that I would have the ball in my hands throughout the season. When I get there, it will be an easy adjustment for me with how I handle the rock and get my teammates open. Our goal is to win a national championship next year.”
Dana Altman and his staff did an excellent job during his official visit. King realized he found his college home when on campus.
“I realized that Oregon was the best place for me when I went on my official visit,” King said. “All of the coaches showed me love like no other school. I can’t wait to get there next year. Go ducks.”
The rising senior greatly improved as his basketball career went on. He credits reaching this stage of his career to all of the work he put in through the years.
“People used to doubt me when I was younger, but I used that as motivation and pushed forward,” he said. “I worked out every day with my family and now I’m here.”
Hello, my name is Louis King and this is my decision.
This is the decision that determines where I will play at the next level. The decision that will provide me a free education and make my family proud. The decision that will shape my future.
I wasn’t always the five-star prospect that everyone sees today, I had to work for it. I grew up from humble beginnings in Jersey City and started playing basketball when I was nine years old. I was overlooked and my ability wasn’t taken seriously. From then on, I used that as motivation to prove them wrong and push my limits. Basketball provides challenges and opportunities both on and off the court. I’ve been doubted, and I have dealt with adversity. I’ve competed, grown and even inspired through this game. From late nights to long traveling weekends and everything in between, it’s been a tough and strenuous process, but today makes all of that worth it.
I’ve been blessed with great opportunities. Five of them remain for me. I would like to thank each of them for all of the time and effort they put into my recruitment. I would like to thank my coaches and my teammates that have pushed me and helped get me to this point in my career. My friends for all of their love and support, but most of all I would like to thank my family who has been by my side through it all. Today, I am blessed to announce my decision. I would like to announce that I have committed to the University of Oregon. Go Ducks.
