2024 Guard Daye Kaba is Proving Himself to Be a Division One Talent

2024 guard Daye Kaba has been one of the most consistently productive guards in New York City over the past couple of seasons. After transferring into Eagle Academy in the Bronx, Kaba immediately brought toughness and versatility to the program. At 6-foot-6, he likes to play on the ball and shows good feel and vision as he’s driving to the rim. Moreover, he’s improved drastically as a shooter over the past year and it’s opened up the floor for him in a real way. Despite that, his recruitment has yet to hit his level of play. With most low-major programs prioritizing the portal over high school prospects, opportunities have been limited for the class of 2024 as a whole.

Now he’s joined New Heights’ MADE Hoops Circuit team in hopes of proving to division one programs that he can play at their level. He is once again playing under Eagle Academy head coach Roosevelt Byers, who appreciates the opportunity to coach his star guard for another few months.

“Having Daye in the program for the past year, it was great, he’s an awesome kid and he works hard, so getting to extend that time with him and really get to coach him for the next couple of months and us having that experience together already, it definitely is a good thing,” said Byers.

As of now, Albany and NJIT, Old Dominion have been the programs who have been reaching out to Kaba the most consistently. He took visits to both Albany and NJIT over the past couple of weeks. He had this to say on his time on both campuses.

[On his Albany visit]: “It was good, I got to work out with the coaches and the team, coach Killings is a great guy”

[On his NJIT visit]: “It was good too, it was the same kind of thing where I got to work out with them and got to meet the coaches so it was a great experience for me,”

While it remains to be seen what path he ultimately chooses to take to the college ranks, Kaba is fairly certain of what he’s looking for in a college program.

“I’m just looking for a place that I can fit well both on and off the floor. If I feel like that fit isn’t there for me in 2024 then I’ve also put some thought into a post grad year and will join the class of 2025, “ said Kaba.

Both Kaba and the New Heights 17s as a whole are off to a great start through the first month of MHC play. They’ve also tallied a win against UAA program Riverside Hawks back at East Warmup and look poised to be one of the premier teams on the circuit heading into the May live period. It won’t be surprising to see him find a division one program to call home as he continues to produce on the MADE Hoops Circuit.
