Brayden Burries Leads Roosevelt to Open Division Title with Historic 44 Point Performance
Roosevelt used a dominant second half to capture a runaway 80-60 victory over Archbishop Riordan in the CIF State Open Division final, as Brayden Burries established a new single-game scoring record with 44 points, breaking the previous record of 35 points set back in 2017. Burries, who shot an ultra-efficient 15 of 22 from the field and 4 of 6 from beyond the arc, also went 10 of 12 from the free-throw line and added 12 rebounds, 2 steals, and 3 blocks to top off his other worldly performance. The Mustangs were firmly in control after taking a double-digit lead late in the first half and never looked back in the second, with their lead ballooning to as much as 21 points in the 4th quarter. Senior point guard and elite defender Myles Walker contributed 15 points and 3 steals, while junior Jackson Haggins added a crucial 12 points as well. Riordan was led by Texas A&M signee Jasir Rencher’s 22 points and four rebounds, but Roosevelt’s well-balanced attack and suffocating defense proved too much to overcome as they secured their second championship of the season (Southern Section Open Division Champions).
