2025 Georgia Post-Season Primer: 6A Regions 5-8

6A – Region 5 – AT Walton HS

First Round – February 8th

Second Round – February 11th

Semifinals – February 13th

Championship/Consolation – February 14th

Favorite – Wheeler is a common household name in Georgia for high school basketball.  The Wildcats are flawless in the region so far this year and feature a plethora of talent that has division one offers or interests.  2025 6’9 F Tylis Jordan is an Ole Miss commit who has held it down inside all year for the Wildcats.  2025 6’5 W Mansur McClain has been a huge addition that came this year as well and is hearing from a number of small division one programs.  Wheeler has a handful of juniors though who will all be back next year who are getting a number of division one interests.  2026 6’6 W Colben Landrew has been a superstar this year for Wheeler and has risen to the occasion big game after big game.  Landrew holds several power five offers.  2026 6’3 G Kota Suttle Jr. has had a notable season as well this year.  The Wildcats have had only two region games decided by less than 23 points.

Contenders – Etowah has been as battle tested as anyone can be.  The Eagles have played one of the most difficult non-region schedules this year in Georgia and have still managed to pull off an impressive record.  2025 6’5 W Alex Young has had one of the best seasons statistically of any senior in Georgia.  A double double guy almost every night, Young is a jack-of-all-trades type guy who has led Etowah all season.  2025 6’4 F Aiden Weaver, a Alabama Huntsville commit, is a 1000 point career scorer who has shined this season, and you have to mention 2025 6’0 PG Cooper Heller who has been impressive all season long for the Eagles answering the call when summoned to step up.  He runs the team as well as any point guard has led a team this year and is absolutely electric with the ball.  2026 5’10 G Will Myles is another player of note that when the four headed monster of Etowah is all clicking, they will be a very difficult out.  They split with Walton this year, and lost by four notably.

Walton has been consistently good all season and has lost only one game this year by more than ten points.  Bo Abney will have his very experienced and senior led squad ready as they are also the host team this year for the region tournament.  2025 6’3 PG Caesar Burrows, a Lehigh commit, has been the floor general and the party starter this year.  Burrows’ length and athleticism has been a problem for the opposition all year and has gotten to the paint at will.  2025 6’4 SG Nikolas Avaliani, a Suwanee commit, has been absolutely lights out from the perimeter this year and a consistent rebounding guard.  2025 6’3 Kaeden Gilstrap, a Wofford football commit, has been a tough consistently scoring guard and tough defender for the Raiders.  And don’t forget about the youngster in the middle in 2027 6’7 F CJ Jordan who has been an unsung hero holding it down inside.  The really good passing big man has also had some great performances offensively.  He brings size, smarts, and some really good skills as well for a youngster.  Walton has the tools to win the whole thing on any given night when all systems are clicking.

Cherokee will play North Cobb in the pivotal win or go home game to kick things off.  The Warriors feature 2026 6’2 G Braylon Luster who has had some very notable outings this season as a youngster playing against the likes that they face.  2026 6’6 Sean Hamilton has also had some big games throughout the course of the season and could be a factor in the pivotal matchup with North Cobb in Walton on Tuesday night.

Darkhorse – Marietta has an extremely young team, and will have to beat two teams to get into the state tournament, but 2025 6’4 W Michael Smith and 2028 6’5 F Merrick Ham are very talented players, and if the youngsters of Marietta can come together next week at Walton, Marietta does have the players to hang around and make things interesting and potentially.

6A – Region 6 – AT Alpharetta HS

First Round – February 7th

Second Round – February 8th

Semifinals – February 11th

Championship/Consolation – February 13th

Favorite – Lambert has been dominant all season long.  The Longhorns went undefeated in the region and only had one brush with defeat where they beat North Atlanta by five, otherwise won every game by double digits.  2026 6’6 W Will Dopfer and 2025 6’7 F Taj McCloud have been nearly unstoppable this season as an inside tandem.  A true yin and yang combination, Dopfer was really good from the right block, McCloud front the left this season.  Both had a number of double double performances and both were good shot blockers.  2025 6’0 G Cam Bland is the school’s all time leading scorer, a Samford football commit, and the three of them partnered with 2026 SG Kenny LaRue’s perimeter shooting, boded for a two loss season only.  The Longhorns haven’t lost to a team from Georgia since November 27th.

Contenders – North Forsyth is led by 2025 6’0 PG Brogen Casey who has been the glue guy this year holding everything together for the Raiders.  2026 6’6 F Michael Akinrinmade has been impressive often times and been a Swiss army knife type guy who can hurt you in a variety of ways.  The Raiders are extremely well coached, they don’t beat themselves, and shoot the ball from the outside as a team at a high clip.

North Atlanta has seen some serious changes in the last calendar year.  The Warriors started out absolutely red hot and were boasted as one of the top teams to watch this year in 6A.  But the Warriors have won four games only in the new year and slid to the four seed for the region tournament.  That being said, North Atlanta has some scary good talent, and 2025 6’1 PG Mason Sampson has been impressive all season long.  The scoring guard has had a number of big performances and was easily one of the most impressive players in the region this year.  2026 6’11 Kevin Curtis is one of the better big men in the 2026 class in Georgia and has developed a jump shot this year that has made him more of a threat to score.  2025 6’5 W Mayson Baker has also had some notable performances this year that if the Warriors can come together late in the season, they have the talent to take the region.

West Forsyth reeled off six region wins in the new year to play their way into a three seed for the region tournament.  The Wolverines had huge productivity this year from 2025 6’4 W Gray Smith, who scored in a variety of ways and is a guy who can guard multiple positions.  2025 6’2 W Jason Tawuo has also stepped up this season at times and had some notable performances in West Forsyth’s push to the region tournament.

Darkhorse – In a region full of uncertainty, Forsyth Central is a team that has what it takes to pull off a pair of victories in the region tournament and play their way into the state tournament.  2026 6’4 WF Caleb Drummer is a very good high school basketball player who averaged nearly 20 points per game this year.  Drummer has the size and physicality to get going very quickly and has made a living this year cleaning up on the offensive boards for putbacks.  A guy who plays a lot bigger than he is, Drummer is capable of taking over a game and creating offense by just hitting the offensive glass alone at times.  2025 6’0 G Daylen Hargrove has had some really good performances as well throughout the season and can get going quickly and impact the game.

6A – Region 7 – AT Brookwood HS

First Round – February 7th

Second Round – February 8th

Semifinals – February 11th

Championship/Consolation – February 13th

Favorite – Norcross was a huge point of conversation this offseason as they hit the transfer portal hard and have had a lot of new faces walking the halls of Norcross High School.  The Blue Devils went 12-2 in the region this year which was just enough to clinch the one seed for the region tournament.  2027 6’3 G Nasir Anderson has been one of the top, if not the top, sophomores in Georgia.  There aren’t many, if any, boxes that Anderson doesn’t check off, and has shined on some of the state’s biggest stages this season.  2025 6’5 W Miles Clanton is one of the top unsigned seniors in Georgia still out there on the board.  Clanton is a guy who can hurt you in so many ways, can guard just about anyone, and simply plays within himself and his abilities.  2026 6’6 Jaron Saulsberry is another division one recruit of mention that plays for Norcross.  Saulsberry holds division one offers from a handful of notable programs and is a guy who has a really high ceiling.  Norcross has had some ups and downs this year, but come postseason play, they are going to be a very difficult team to beat when they are at their best.

Contenders – Meadowcreek has had a very good season this year.  Many people expected a down year this year for the Mustangs, but 2025 6’3 G Hady Diane has had a fantastic senior campaign season this year and has led the Mustangs to a two seed in the tournament.  2025 6’0 PG Jayson Fleming has also led the Mustangs this year and played the role of point guard magnificently.  Meadowcreek is one of those teams that has shown this year they are not going to beat themselves, and their style of play and talent have what it takes to sneak up on someone and win the region.

Peachtree Ridge was one of those teams this year who is way better than their record indicates.  The Lions lost ten games this year, but seven of those ten were by single digits, and the other three were by no more than 12 points.  2026 6’2 G Malik Rideout had a coming out party this season and was superb much of the season this year for Ridge.  2025 6’9 F Derwin Hodge, a South Carolina State commit, has been the length inside for Ridge contesting and blocking shots.  2026 6’5 F Gideon Kamuelyu has been a bright spot for Ridge much of the season.  The big man is very good to his left, can guard multiple positions, and is a very good passer from the post who can hurt you in so many ways once he gets the ball inside.  Don’t be fooled by the Lions record, they are talented enough to win the whole thing next week.

Duluth has had a good season this year behind some talented seniors.  2025 6’0 PG David Culbreath-Martin broke the school record for career points and is also a very good passing point guard on top of the scoring productivity he can produce.  2025 6’5 F Shepard Smedlund has been healthy and surged his value.  Smedlund is a lefty who can do a little bit of everything, and has had a number of double double performances this season.  2027 6’7 Randall Kellum has been the inside presence.  Kellum has had a few double doubles of his own this year and is one of the notable big men in the sophomore class in Georgia currently.  Duluth has shown the ability to play and run with the best of the best this year, and if they are clicking, don’t sleep on Duluth in the region.

Darkhorse – North Gwinnett may come as a shock to most people as a darkhorse having gone 1-13 in the region this year, but it’s important to note that an eye popping nine of those 13 defeats have been by three possessions or less this season in region play.  The Bulldogs were that close to being 10-4 instead which would be an entirely different conversation right now.  They have their work cutout in the region tournament by having to beat Parkview and Meadowcreek to qualify, but the Bulldogs have the stye of play to grind you out, and 2025 6’5 SG JJ Gallagher can hit it from the parking lot if left open.  Gallagher has some incredible range, and a unique release that allows him to shoot over contesting defenders.  2025 6’5 W Joseph Young has also had some notable performances, and is an exceptional athlete.  North has the style, the shooters, and athletes to pull off a few upsets potentially better than any other 8 seed you’ll find out there.

6A – Region 8 – AT Collins Hill HS

First Round – February 6th

Second Round – February 8th

Semifinals – February 10th

Championship/Consolation – February 12th

Favorite – Buford coach Wes Parker is in his second season at Buford, and still is yet to lose a region game.  Buford has gone undefeated in back to back seasons in the region and will look to defend their region title in the deepest region this year in 6A with the most parity.  Anybody 1-7 is capable of beating anybody.  2025 6’3 W Kyle Carpenter has been a leader much of the year for Buford.  Carpenter has some good length, strength, and grit to his game that has suited him well this season.  2027 6’1 G Carmelo Williams has been one of the more impressive sophomores this year in 6A.  Williams is a do-it-all youngster who can play above the rim, a really good defender, and makes decisions wise beyond his years.  2025 6’0 G Edward Hunter III has also had a good senior season and shined throughout the season.  Buford has been tested this year despite their record.  The Wolves may be undefeated, they may be the defending champ, but they won only one region game this year by over 20, and will be pushed by the other contenders.

Contenders – Mill Creek has had a really good season this year.  In a region that everyone talked about Dacula and Buford going in, the Hawks have risen, and 2026 6’7 WF Braxton Rembert has made quite the impression this year.  The incredibly gifted athletic wingman, Rembert has had a number of double double performances this season and brings a lot of different things to the court to help Mill Creek.  2025 6’6 W Nick Lolli is an extremely skilled wing as well who plays with poise, patience, and a ton of skill.  Lolli is one of the better skill guys still on the board in 2025 in Georgia.  Adding more size, is 2026 6’8 C Landon Williams who has brought an inside presence as well.  With all of this size, Mill Creek has the size and talent to take the region.  They lost both meetings with Buford this year by a combined 11 points only.

Dacula was ordained at the beginning of the year to be the heavy favorite to win the region.  The Falcons got off to a slow start, but won four of their last six games to position themselves in a good spot to get into the state tournament.  2025 6’2 G Cam Stephens, a Clayton state commit, has had a good senior season despite all the ups and down that the Falcons have gone through.  Stephens is considered one of the top players in the Georgia 2025 class.  2025 6’3 SG Anderson Shepherd, a division three Oglethorpe commit, has been deadly at times from three and his athleticism has propelled him as one of the more attractive players in the region this year in the senior class prospects.  Shepherd can guard multiple positions, runs the floor really well, and when he gets hot from outside, it’s contagious for everyone else.  2025 6’6 F Christian Eziakor, an RIT commit, has also had some bright spots this season.  If the Falcons can play the way everyone expected them to this season, they have the talent to take the region.

Collins Hill is led by a bunch of seniors this season.  2025 6’4 SG Tyson Baumgardner has emerged as one of the better shooters this year in the senior class.  Baumgardner has had several games where he has hit five or more threes in a single game.  He has length, IQ, and rebounds well out of his area as well.  He holds an offer to the infamous Tyler JC.  2025 6’4 Ruben Borg has also played well this year for the Eagles.  Borg has a lot of shot creating ability, and when he is on, he is an extremely difficult guard.  2025 6’3 F Noah Osuji has had some bright spots this season as well as an undersized big man inside.  The Eagles hit a slump during the season where they lost seven of nine games, but have found their stride as of late winning three in a row to end the regular season, notably beating Mill Creek.  As the host school for this year’s tournament, the Eagles have the experience, the home court advantage, and the coaching to take the region this year if they can come together.

Darkhorse – Discovery has been a revolving door for boys basketball.  Don’t tell that to Gantt Jones who has easily done one of the best coaching jobs this year in all of Georgia.  The Titans were a win away from being the three seed in this year’s region tournament.  They had notable big wins this season over the likes of Dacula, Collins Hill, and Central Gwinnett in the region and six of their seven region losses were by 10 points or less only.  The Titans feature 2027 6’0 G Tyler Barnes who has caught division one interest already at his young age.  2025 5’10 G Kyle Gilbert has had a fantastic campaign this year hitting some big shots in some big games for Discovery.  2025 6’5 F Nigel Gist has held it down in the middle for Discovery this season as well having some big games from time to time.  The Titans this year have the talent to reel off two wins in a row over Mountain View and Collins Hill to secure a berth in the state tournament.
