2026 SoCal Clash: Sunday Storylines & Superlatives

High-level competition and nonstop action filled The Draft Sports Complex in Corona, California on Sunday as the 2026 SoCal Clash wrapped up with a packed slate of standout performances and tightly contested matchups. Several programs closed the weekend unbeaten behind connected team basketball, defensive intensity, and unselfish offensive play, while individual standouts continued building momentum heading deeper into the spring travel season. From gritty one-possession finishes to dominant double-digit victories, the event offered another strong look at a number of rising prospects and groups beginning to hit their stride.

Sunday Storylines

Performance First 15’s Grind Out Three Straight Close Wins

Nothing came easy for Performance First, but the group consistently delivered in winning time. They escaped GB Huskies Navy by a single point, 44-43, before later surviving another tight finish against Team BNB MHC, 62-59. Back in action Sunday morning, they edged West Coast Wildcats 15U Blue 72-68, remarkably their largest margin of victory of the weekend. Defensive rebounding, rim pressure, and collective poise late in games kept showing up whenever things tightened.

Island Swish 16’s Leave No Doubt During 4-0 Weekend

The combination of size, pace, and offensive cohesion proved overwhelming from start to finish for Island Swish. Their opening-day wins over Southwest Select (76-47) and Super Elite MHC (61-46) already established control, but Sunday’s 89-41 dismantling of Go Off Hoops may have been the clearest example of the separation they created from the field. Opponents struggled to contain them in transition, and once the ball started moving side-to-side offensively, the games often unraveled quickly. Across four victories, they outscored opponents by 93 points.

Salt City Hustle 16’s Put Together Complete Weekend in Pool B

Sharp execution and connected team play fueled an unbeaten run for Salt City Hustle, who closed the weekend 4-0 with a +68 scoring margin. A 53-36 victory over Prospects on Deck got things started before Sunday wins against West Coast Wildcats (52-30) and Lee Sports Group (51-37) secured the perfect finish. Patience offensively stood out throughout the weekend, particularly with how consistently they moved without the ball and created quality looks. Defensive effort and hustle sequences repeatedly swung momentum in their favor as well.

17U Pool A Ends in Three-Way Tie at the Top

No team separated completely from the pack in Pool A, where Southwest Select, Elite Hoops MHC, and Salt City Hustle all wrapped up the weekend at 3-1. Southwest Select paired a +66 point differential with the best defensive numbers in the pool, allowing only 206 total points behind the efforts of James McMahon, Diego R. Diaz-Ortiz, Julien Falk-Ramirez, Caleb Gutierrez, Justin Herrera, Deurice Goss, Damian Ortega, and Igwe Chukwu. Offensive firepower helped carry Elite Hoops MHC to a +30 differential led by James Evans III, Joseph Dickson, Aiden Garcia, Kentrayl Roberson, Ja’Vance Coleman, Jordan Clark, Andrew Mora, Ronald Robles, and Andrew Berry Jr. Salt City Hustle, meanwhile, survived one of the tougher overall paths behind the play of Spencer Dow, Jordan Horsley, Preston White, Koli Fosita, Stone Tia, Azan Afridi, Tyson Horsley, and DC Aukusitino, finishing the weekend with a 3-1 mark of their own.

Sunday Superlatives

Energizer Bunny – Ayden Lobendahn, 2029 Forward, Salt City Hustle

Possessions rarely ended neatly when Lobendahn was involved. He consistently created extra opportunities through activity on the glass, ran the floor hard in transition, and finished efficiently around the basket with soft hands and good timing. Length and effort also translated defensively where he altered shots and covered ground well.

Table Setter — Kavan Dhami, 2028 Guard, FTG Elite

The game seemed to slow down in Dhami’s hands, particularly in transition where his vision and anticipation repeatedly created easy looks for teammates. He handled pressure comfortably, made sharp reads on the move, and mixed in crafty finishes around the rim from difficult angles. The balance between control and creativity stood out.

Glue Guy — Justin Herrera, 2027 Wing, Southwest Select

Winning plays piled up quietly throughout the weekend for Herrera. He spaced the floor effectively, moved intelligently without the ball, and made timely cuts that kept defenses occupied. Add in defensive activity and rebounding effort, and he consistently impacted the game without needing high-volume touches.

Downhill Force — Kenyaun “KO” Harris, 2028 Guard, Lee Sports Group

Getting downhill was where Harris separated himself most, overwhelming defenders with strength and physicality once he built momentum. He embraced contact attacking the basket, finished through bodies, and generated paint pressure both in transition and in the half court. Rebounding and playmaking added another layer to his offensive impact.
