Saturday was the concluding day of the inaugural EYBL City Series at Suitland High School (MD). MADE Hoops dives into some of the best storylines and superlatives from Day 2.
Team Final’s Late Surge Leads to Victory
With an undefeated weekend on the line, Team Final 16U found themselves down double-digits in the second half to a scrappy Team Melo squad.
This talented Team Final group elevated their defensive intensity in the second half, picking up full court and boosting their activity.
The guard play of Rowan Phillips, Carter Smith and Ian Smith was superb in the comeback win. Smith and Phillips both forced turnovers that led to quick and easy baskets for Team Final down the stretch.
Carter Smith would go on a 6-0 run of his own, while Ian Smith would settle the offense down in the halfcourt, and make sure they valued each possession.
Team Final would go on to win with a 67-63 final score. Rowan Phillips led with 19 points, Carter Smith followed with 15 points and 4 steals. Julian Mckie would contribute a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Aaron Early Jr., Aaron Avery, Jaliel Spears, and Eyan Valadez were all in double figures for Team Melo.
Team Durant 15U is a Unit
Team Durant’s 2029 group is undefeated throughout 3 games at the EYBL’s DMV City Series. This team is huge, athletic, and long across the board. Not only are they athletes, but they also know how to play. Their guard play led them offensively, but the play from their forwards defensively caused problems for opposing teams.
Toby Echebi, Tylen Kingsby, Harlem Nunez, Jayden Nunez and Khyri Tomlinson make up a rangy, forceful frontcourt. The mix of power, rim protection and high-flying ability they possess will make them a tough out.
Between Elijah Schneeberg, Dylan Sauritch, and Amaizen Straughters bring a great mix of positional size, scoring and playmaking from the backcourt.
Saturday Superlatives
Team Player – Julian McKie, 2028 Wing, Team Final
Julian McKie is deserving of the Team Player title due to his ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. He guarded the ball well, guarding multiple positions, while also making perimeter shots at big moments for Team Final (PA).
High Flyer – Tylen Kingsby, 2029 Wing, Team Durant
Tylen Kingsby made a crazy first impression for people who may have been unfamiliar with the high-flying 2029 wing. Kingsby was living on the rims at Suitland High School, catching lobs, putback dunks, and explosive shot blocking. His high energy was essential for his team in their undefeated weekend.
