PAUL OSARUYI – 6-FOOT-9 POWER FORWARD/CENTER – ARIZONA UNITY CLASS OF 2027
Averages: 9.2 ppg EFG% of 53.0% TS% of 53.0% 5.2 rebs 2.0 ast 2.4 blocks 1.2 steals
Osaruyi has had a strong start to his 2025 EYBL season with Arizona Unity, which has propelled him into the top 20 of our MADE Hoops rankings – climbing from #22 to #18. If he’s able to maintain this level of play throughout the summer, I expect that ranking to rise even higher.
0:00 – 1:21: Scoring Off the Dribble
Paul has shown real flashes of being able to create shots for himself, using his long frame and athleticism to elevate and knock down shots over defenders. His ball-handling skills have improved, allowing him to score in a greater variety of ways. This has been especially evident 10–15 feet from the basket—where he takes one – two dribbles and either puts his shoulder into his defender to create space for a fadeaway, or uses a quick crossover to get his defender off balance and shoot over them.
Where he thrives most as of now is attacking defenses downhill. His unique blend of speed and vertical explosiveness allows him to throw down ferocious dunks over opponents. Because of his height, he’s rarely deterred when shooting and displays good mechanics for his size and age. He plays well out of the triple-threat position and is a legitimate threat to drive or shoot at any time.
1:21 – 1:52: Scoring from the Post and Catching Alley-Oops
While Osaruyi loves to play on the perimeter and showcase his shot-making ability, I would like to see him operate more in the post and consistently attack mismatches. His blend of strength and leaping ability combined with his 6’9”, 220-pound frame makes him an absolute nightmare to defend down low. He demonstrates good patience and balance near the hoop and has a punishing drop step that often leads to powerful dunks over defenders. I would also love to see him used more frequently as a lob threat; as he progresses to higher levels of competition, I believe this will become one of his signature calling cards.
1:53 – 2:27: Defense
He uses his elite leaping ability to be a dominant shot-blocker, anchoring the paint with 2.4 blocks per game through three sessions of play. He has the versatility to play multiple defensive coverages—including showing and recovering in pick-and-roll situations, or switching onto guards and wings on the perimeter. He uses his size and long wingspan to deter opponents effectively. When he’s flying around at full speed, he becomes a true menace on the defensive end.
Areas of Improvement:
Paul has all the physical tools to be a top-tier player in the 2027 class; the key now is becoming more consistent on both ends of the floor. Offensively, he will need to continue refining his ball-handling skills so he can get to the rim more reliably. While he averages 5.2 rebounds per game, I’d like to see him attack the glass more aggressively. Too often, he waits for the ball to fall into his hands leading to missed opportunities and giving up offensive boards.
Reasons to Be High on Him:
The case for buying into Osaruyi’s upside is simple: the combination of height, weight, speed, and leaping ability is rare. I had the chance to watch him in person during EYBL Session 2 in Memphis, and was blown away by his athletic prowess and ability to score against Team Takeover (18 points, 8-of-10 FG).
If he can replicate performances like that at Peach Jam and into his junior year, I expect him to continue rising in our rankings!
