Top Five Sophomore AJ Williams Starting the Season Hot

2028 6-foot-8 wing AJ Williams is ranked 2nd in our MADE National Rankings. Through 10 games of his high school season, he’s averaging a blazing 20.4 points and 13.3 rebounds per game (54% FG, 35% 3PT, 86% FT), including a 52 point performance. He was a standout in the E15 Division this summer for Georgia Stars as well as at the USA Basketball Junior National Mini Camp in October.

What Makes him a Top 2 Prospect in His Class

Williams has a rare combination of size, athleticism, and offensive creation abilities. The standout makes the game look effortless, especially as a scorer. At 6-8, Williams is able to create space for himself off the dribble, get to his spots, and convert with impressive efficiency. Super smooth off the dribble, Williams is able to shift defenders, gather himself, and knockdown pull-ups at a high level. The talented sophomore is especially impressive in the midrange, where he has great touch and footwork to convert at a high level. Beyond his scoring, Williams is also capable of handling the ball in transition and half-court situations to initiate offense. Effective attacking in pick and roll, making reads against zone and help side defense, and keeping the ball moving to the open man; he shows effective moments as a passer and playmaker.

On the other side of the ball, Williams is able to leverage his frame to guard multiple positions, make plays in passing lanes, and deter attempts around the rim. As his averages suggest, Williams is also an elite rebounder for his position. Engagement, vertical athleticism, and strength help him to control the glass on both ends of the floor. This means finishing plays on the defensive end and earning extra opportunities on the offensive glass with his effort and timing.

Williams holds offers from Auburn, Oregon, Tennessee, Louisville, Memphis, LSU, Georgia, Indiana, Rutgers, Miss State, Georgia Tech, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, Cincinnati, and NC State.
