Alex Charlotin’s Journey Leads to Marshall

Some commitments hit differently.

Not because of the logo. Not because of the level. But because of everything it took to get there.

Alex Charlotin‘s commitment to Marshall University is one of those stories.

From Dynastie Prep to Ellsworth Community College and now to the Division I level, this isn’t just another recruiting update. It’s the result of years of work, patience, and belief in the process when the spotlight wasn’t always shining.

Before anything else, Charlotin made it a point to reach back.

“I just committed to Marshall University and I wanted to personally thank you for the love and support along the way, back when I was at Dynastie Prep when I was younger. Just wanted to let you know it means a lot to me, for real. Thank you.”

That message tells you a lot about who he is.

Grateful. Humble. A player who understands that every step of the journey matters.

The path wasn’t linear.

Like many Canadian prospects who take the junior college route, Charlotin had to embrace a level of resilience that often goes unnoticed. The JUCO level isn’t about waiting your turn. It’s about producing, competing, and proving yourself every day.

At Ellsworth, he did exactly that.

Over time, Charlotin developed into a player capable of impacting games consistently while positioning himself for the opportunity he was chasing. The work happened behind the scenes, long before the commitment graphic ever went out.

Now, that opportunity has arrived.

When asked what the commitment meant to him, Charlotin kept his answer simple.

“It means a lot honestly. To see where I started to where I’m at today, it’s great.”

Simple words, but they carry weight.

Because behind them are the early mornings, the uncertainty, and the moments where nothing is guaranteed. Every stop along the way helped shape the player and person he has become.

Marshall now becomes the next chapter.

The Division I opportunity represents more than a destination. It’s another chance to prove himself and show that the JUCO route wasn’t a detour—it was a launchpad. Players who come through that path often arrive with a different edge, and Charlotin feels cut from that cloth.

There’s a toughness to his story that fits what Marshall has built.

The program’s identity has long been rooted in resilience, hard work, and finding a way forward regardless of the obstacles. Charlotin’s journey mirrors many of those same qualities.

He’s arriving in Huntington with a story already written, but with his best basketball still ahead of him.

This commitment serves as a reminder that development rarely happens in a straight line. Sometimes the path takes longer. Sometimes it requires betting on yourself when others aren’t paying attention.

Alex Charlotin stayed the course.

Now he’s earned his shot.
