D2 transfer Antonio Chandler’s recruitment is already heating up

6’6″ grad transfer wing forward Antonio Chandler has been one of the hottest names hit the portal from the D2 ranks so far. In this season with Southern Connecticut State, Chandler averaged 17.3 points and 11.3 rebounds per game while shooting 63% from the field and 50% from behind the arc on his way to earning first team all-region and all-conference honors. He was also third in D2 in offensive rebounds per game at 4.8 per contest. He has a strong frame and is a high level athlete that can make game changing plays on both ends of the court, most of which feature his head being at the rim. Get to know Chandler’s basketball background, what he brings to the table at the D1 level, what he’s looking for, and schools recruiting him below.

Background: “Well in highschool I felt like I was a super underrated player. I was well respected within my state and played AAU with some of the best Jersey players, and multiple high major and division 1 players. My journey was 100% a memorable one. I started off at Franklin Pierce University, a D2 in New Hampshire straight after high school. I had a decent career there then ended up transferring to Jamestown University, a NAIA at the time that recently went Division 2. Then finally I transferred to Southern Connecticut having my breakout year thinking it was my final season until the NCAA new rule granted me another year of eligibility. Over time my game has changed a lot, coming from high school I was seen as more of a guard but transitioning to division 2 I was pushed to be more of a forward forcing me to utilize my athleticism and strength more often.”

What He Brings To A D1 Program: “Being able to play Division 1 basketball has been a dream come true. It’s the multiple of years of hard work, dedication, and a deep passion for the game that got me here. My athleticism allows me to compete at a high level, and I’m constantly looking for ways to push my limits. I pride myself on my high motor. I’m always trying to bring energy, intensity, and effort every single time I step on the floor. My basketball IQ is something I’ve developed through studying the game, watching film, and learning from coaches and teammates. I understand how to read the game and make smart decisions, which allows me to contribute in a variety of ways, whether it’s on defense, offense, or leading by example. Overall, I just want to help my team succeed and give my best effort every day, both on and off the court.”

What He’s Looking For: “In my next program I’m definitely looking to be an immediate impact since I have one year of eligibility left. I also am looking for a program that will help enhance my skills to prepare me to play professionally. Finally the last thing I am looking for is a strong connection and relationship with the staff.”

Schools Who Have Reached Out: “Buffalo, Missouri State, Tennessee State, Northeastern, Western Kentucky, Northern Kentucky, Montana State, Wyoming, Maine, UMBC, Siena, Mount Saint Mary’s, Niagara, Le Moyne, Cal State Bakersfield, Cal Baptist, and New Orleans. I’m visiting Siena this weekend and looking to set up a date to visit UMBC.”
