Playing at West Nottingham in Maryland, DJ Brown has been highly productive in the past two seasons, averaging 25 and 21 points per game respectively. The 6-foot-3 guard is far from just a scorer though, and through the first month of MADE Hoops Circuit play, he’s been one of the best new players to emerge. A highly athletic guard who plays consistently over the rim and with a chip on his shoulder, Brown’s aggressiveness and versatility has helped him and Rens United off to a strong start.
“I just do whatever coach needs me to do, If I need to go guard the best player on the team, I’ll go do that, If we need a bucket, I’ll go get a bucket, If I need to play make, then I’ll go play make, whatever it takes for us to win games, I feel like I’m a well rounded enough player that I can be versatile and do a lot of positive things on the floor, I feel like with my athleticism I can play anywhere from the one to the three,” said Brown.
As part of a balanced Rens United group that features several scholarship players, including a few Division one prospects, it’s been a different player stepping up for them seemingly every game out. As a team that features players who play their high school ball in five different states, it’s been a process to start coming together as a team, and the finished product looks like it will be a title contender.
“Honestly, I wasn’t quite expecting it to be this high of a level of competition, at first it took a little time for our team to blend together, I think in the past two sessions we’re 5-1 right now, I don’t think we’re a fully polished team but once we fully come together and learn each other’s games more we should have a chance to win the whole thing,” he said of his time on the MHC so far
On the recruitment front, things are really just starting to take shape. Lafayette has begun to make contact with him and started to build a relationship with Brown, who both appreciates that they have taken an interest in his game while also wanting to prove to any college program that he’s ready to step in from day one and help win games. Keep an eye on the high flying and versatile wing guard this Spring and Summer.
