The 2025 edition of MADE Hoops Philly Clash started strong. A handful of teams picked up big MHC and Challenger Circuit wins as some of the top independent programs in the regions went at it in preparation for next weekend’s live period. MADE takes a closer look at some of the takeaways from Saturday’s action.
Takeover Showcase Shines in DC Derby
Saturday afternoon saw two DC programs who look like contenders in their respective divisions duke it out. Team Takeover Showcase has looked like a contender on the MHC while the DC Blue Devils are on the shortlist for Challenger Circuit 16U favorites. Powered in part by the duo of AJ Cunningham and Ethan-Mekhi Bennings, Showcase came out with their hair on fire, taking a 41-22 lead into the half. While the Blue Devils got their feet under them and started cutting into the lead early in the second half, Showcase was ready and went on another run of their own, extending their lead further. After being challengers for the title at the 16U level last season, it appears Showcase is right back in the mix this season.
Gauchos Duo Lead With Toughness
With point guard Joe Nunez and wing Dillion Callahan leading the way, it’s not a surprise to see the NY Gauchos 16s winning games with their defense and aggression. Nunez just finished up a strong season at PDI Prep (OH) with Gauchos program director Book Richardson, while Callahan has long been considered one of the elite competitors in New York’s class of 2027. A 2-0 Saturday was impressive, and with a good test against 6th Boro looming Sunday, expect both to have a major impact.
York Ballers 15U Continue to Roll
One of the best 15U teams on the MHC this season has been the York Ballers. Forward Rashard Miller is highly talented and versatile. Guards Amir Thompson-Hanson and Yoziah Romero have fantastic positional size and play hard on both ends of the floor, while point guard Derek Dolimpio does a good job of spreading the ball around. They’ll be a hard out for a majority of MHC teams this season.
