The high school season is wrapping up across the country and there are just a handful of games left to play in Pennsylvania. Junior point guard Cameron Sweeney has been great all season, but has found that little something extra that has Hershey in the running for a state title.
“The high school season has been going well. We won the district championship and we are in the state championship- so just one more win to go. This season I learned to move on after a miss or a mistake and keep my head in the game. I improved my leadership skills as well so it’s been a good year,” Sweeney said.
Being the leader of a team isn’t something that’s new to the talented guard, as he’s also the Quarterback at Hershey, he credits his time on the gridiron for helping him grow as a basketball player.
“Being a two-sport athlete is pretty easy to navigate since playing point and playing QB are pretty similar, the leadership roles in both sports are pretty important, but football got me ready for basketball and made my maturity improve a lot.” he said
Sweeney will suit up with Sideline Cancer again this Spring and Summer. As one of the premier 16U teams on the MHC last season, Sideline Cancer made a run to the championship game before being knocked off by Rens United. Coming close but ultimately falling short overall was an experience that sets this group up for success for this season.
“Last year was really good for me and our team and I think since we just brought that group together last year we know our roles now and can improve our chemistry. The expectation is definitely a championship,” said Sweeney
As far as his recruitment is concerned- Bucknell & South Carolina have reached out for football, but Sweeney’s heart remains focused on the hardwood. Keep an eye out for both Sideline Cancer and it’s under the radar point guard this MHC season.
