Isiah Rose’s path to the Division I level was not easy or traditional. He’s been a grinder that has just refused to give up on his dream. Rose has really excelled on the MADE Hoops Circuit this spring, and after a great live period showing at DMV Live he decided to sign with New Haven.
The 6-foot-8 Rose originally popped up during his early years at Mekeel Christian (NY) where he was a dominant force inside. His touch around the basket is impressive, he’s strong, creates contact and isn’t afraid to move bodies in the paint. Rose started to build a reputation in New York and decided to take that momentum to the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council, joining Vermont Academy.
Rose continued to develop at Vermont Academy, where he got even more productive. He also made a big decision to join the Crown grassroots program and be coached by Chris Diasparra. The two clicked right away and started building something together quickly. His success was seen by others, and an enticing offer from the Diamond Doves of the Overtime Elite League was able to lure him to the southwest.
While his decision was questioned by some observers – particularly given his success in the Northeast – Rose made the most of the opportunity. Despite a lack of team wins, he proved he belonged while competing against high-level prospects. His stock rose significantly following a standout performance on the MADE Hoops Circuit, ultimately leading to his commitment to New Haven.
New Haven offered Rose on May 19 after his visit, and he announced his commitment on May 21. The Chargers have been spending plenty of time in the portal plus have invested in their current recruiting class. Tim Walker, a JuCo prospect out of Maryland will join Rose as the only current members of the 2026 recruiting class.
New Haven could utilize Rose right away, since he’s experienced, knows how to play a role, is mature and can make an immediate impact. This NEC program could be one of the rise if they continue to add intriguing pieces like Rose.
