Junior Swingman Josh Powell on Joining MHC, Stock-rising Season, & Recruitment

Josh Powell made the decision to move westward and grasp the opportunity to play for Skyline Prep, a Nike Elite HS in Arizona. Powell talked with MADE Hoops about joining the MADE Hoops Circuit,  the latest on his recruitment, what he has improved on since making the move to Skyline Prep, & more.

Josh Powell’s move to Skyline Prep has worked out tremendously so far in his favor. Since transferring from Archbishop Molloy (NY) to Skyline Prep (AZ), he has developed very well. He broke what he feels he has improved on the most since arriving at Skyline Prep.

“I feel like since I have been at Skyline I have improved on being more of a point guard and got more comfortable playing that 1 spot. Only being 6’5, I have to be a combo and be able to play the 1 and 2. So making that transition has been good and I feel like that is one of the many things I have improved on while being here.”

Throughout this season, he has shown off his high-level mid-range game, along with an aggressiveness to his game. Statistics are not the only thing that Powell can bring to a team. He breaks down what he feels he can impact a game with.

“I feel like I bring leadership to a team. I will hold everyone accountable and make us stay together, especially in tough times. I also bring scoring. I think I am a 3-level scorer and one of the best scorers in the country. I feel like I have scored the ball very well on all levels of high school basketball.”

With AAU quickly approaching the grassroots landscape, Josh Powell made a business decision to play on the MADE Hoops Circuit this year. He talked about what he is looking forward to the most this year in the MADE Hoops Circuit.

“Just playing against some of the top players in the country and trying to win the whole MADE Hoops Circuit. Also being able to play in front of more high major schools, and the high and mid major schools that are recruiting me,” said Powell.

Josh Powell has seen his recruitment rise immensely throughout this season, following his transfer decision to Skyline Prep. He tells MADE Hoops that the following schools are the newest to show interest in him: Western Kentucky, George Mason, Texas, FIU, and Oklahoma. Powell also breaks down what schools he has heard from consistently:

“I have been hearing from Syracuse, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Stanford, LSU, Marist, Hampton, New Mexico State, Arizona State, Kansas, and DePaul. I think that list will grow as I play in the MADE Circuit and other schools will take notice if they haven’t already.

He is also planning some visits in the upcoming future as well, he tells MADE Hoops:

“Already went on an Arizona State visit and planning to go back sometime during AAU. We are also planning my Syracuse visit before AAU. Some schools are wanting me to visit also including Oklahoma State, LSU, and New Mexico State. Exact dates are in the works.”

With the MADE Hoops Circuit quickly approaching, it will be exciting to see Powell’s recruitment continue to quickly grow, along with his development on and off the court.
