MADE Hoops 2024 West Mania Team Spotlight: RBA Waves

RBA Waves made the trip to West Mania and proved to be a competitive program that is a piece or two away from contending with the best. Although RBA Waves didn’t finish with the results they were looking for, they gained valuable experience, competed against some of the region’s best programs and garnered national exposure for their talented players.

Results: Losses against Washington Supreme Select, The Future Of Vegas, SB Snipers, and Washington Supreme Elite.

Devin Turner is a key piece in what RBA Waves does offensively. His ability to create plays off the bounce and act as a table setter for the rest of his team was evident, consistently carving through defenses looking to facilitate. Has a well-built frame with broad shoulders which gives him an advantage when using his body to create space or shield defenders. Uses deceptive change of pace and downhill shifts to get his spots. Crafty shot maker and self creator who confidently carried the load on offense.

Conor Wall still looks to be growing physically and as a player, but he showcased some positive habits and competitiveness during West Mania. The small combo guard played well as a secondary playmaker, utilizing his small frame to fit into tight creases and obtain paint touches. His ability to drive and kick led to ample opportunities for shooters on the wing to get open, stand-still looks. On the other end he utilized his quickness to get up into ball handlers and make them uncomfortable. Has potential to be an impact player as his game develops and he grows into his frame.

Joseph Martinez had a good showing during West Mania with his ability to be multi-positional and have an impact from different spots on the floor. His wiry frame and positional size allow him to act as a romer defensively, quickly sliding over into help position and switching ball screens. Offensively he did a lot of different things to ensure his team would have the best chance possible to win games. Set solid ball screens, was effective cutting behind the defense and also a spot-up threat from deep as a floor spacer.

Peter Gaffey was very impressive, showcasing his strong foundation of basic fundamentals. Consistently made the right basketball play and exemplified selflessness with his ability to defer to his teammates. A reliable shot maker off the catch who has value as a floor spacer offensively. On the defensive end he’s adept at guarding multiple positions and crashes the glass with physicality to help ignite fast break offense.
